Make in any amount desired
This recipe started as an experiment. I was making my Pizza with Caramelized Onions and Cheese recipe, which is in the similar and related recipes links, and I had some homemade barbecue sauce leftover from a previous meal. I decided to try a little of the sauce on a portion of the pizza. We all liked it very much. Since then, I have made the pizza with other toppings, such as leftover cooked pork, chicken, ground beef and other vegetables. It is also very good made like a regular pizza, using the barbecue sauce as a base instead of tomato sauce and topped with cheese. Use your imagination. Homemade barbecue sauce is very quick and easy to make. When you have time, you can make a whole batch and freeze it in portions to use in your favorite recipes. - Store-bought or homemade pizza dough, prebaked or raw
- Homemade or store-bought barbecue sauce
- Caramelized onions
- Sautéed mushrooms
- Shredded cooked pork
- Shredded cooked chicken
- Cooked ground turkey, beef or sausage
- Shredded cheese of choice
Preheat oven to 450° F. If using raw dough, shape it into desired shape. Place on a pizza pan or baking sheet. Top with cooked meats or vegetables, then spoon some sauce on top, ending with some grated cheese. (Herbs can be added, but are not necessary with a well-seasoned barbecue sauce.) Bake until dough is done and the toppings are hot, about 10 or 15 minutes, or according to package of prebaked dough.
