Notes: Leonard Schilling, biological son of Rose Maurer, was raised by Cyprian Kuster as Leonard Kuster as documented in the 1880 Census. It is not known if he was formally adopted, but it is suspected he was not. His name appears as Leonard Kuster in official documents up to the year 1887, at which time it changes to Leonard Schilling. In future documents Leonard lists his father as Leonard Schilling, but no official documentation to support that claim has been found.
Leonard married Rose MAURER.,1 daughter of Leonhard MAURER 2 and Anna Maria METZGAR,.2 Rose was born on 26 Dec 1841 in Baden, Germany,3 was baptized on 29 Dec 1841 in Baden, Germany,4 died on 7 Feb 1881 in Reading, Berks, Pennsylvania, USA5 at age 39, and was buried on 9 Feb 1881 in Aulenbach Cemetery, Reading, PA.6 The cause of her death was consumption.
Notes: It is not known if Rose Maurer was ever married to a Leonard Schilling. She was, however, married to Zsipperaen Kuster as documented in the 1880 Census. Rose's son was raised as Leonard Kuster and used that name until it appears as Schilling in an 1887 Reading City Directory. He listed a Leonard Schilling as his father on official documents, but it is not known if he actually found his biological father.
