The cause of her death was cardiac arrest due to fever of unknown origin.
Notes: Betty Irene Schilling was the biological daughter of Edmund Franklin and Daisy Rebecca (Barnhart) Schilling Sr. Edmund Schilling died in 1929, leaving behind eight children. Daisy, his widow, was unable to care for all of the children. Betty, the second youngest at only 6 years of age, was sent to live with Charles Weidner and Maggie Gehret (Rhoads) Herbein. Maggie was a first cousin to Edmund Scihlling on the Gehret side of their families. Their mothers, Sallie (Gehret) Rhoads and Magdalena (Gehret) Schilling were sisters. Betty visited her biological mother often, and spent holidays and summer vacations with her Schilling family. It is important to mention Betty's relationship with Charles and Maggie Herbein for two reasons. First, Betty's whereabouts in documents and records after 1930 show her in Allentown. Second, she was considered to be a daughter by Charles and Maggie and, in fact, was listed as one in a newspaper announcement of their 50th anniversary. Betty also considered Charles and Maggie to be parents and, in turn, her children considered them to be grandparents. That being said, Daisy (Barnhart) Schilling, who later remarried and became Daisy Weber, was always known as the beloved biological mother and grandmother. For Betty and her children, it was an unfortunate circumstance of life that led to the rare privilege of having an extra set of loving parents and grandparents, as well as acceptance into both the Schilling and Herbein family clans.
