During my teens and early twenties, I spent a lot of time with some good friends, Ferdinand and Alberta Liva. Ferdinand was originally from Southern Italy, and Alberta's family was Italian. Unfortunately, they both passed on years ago. They had five children with whom I have lost touch. I learned to cook from my mother, but I discovered a whole new cuisine from the Livas. Their simple, everyday style of cooking is the basis for many of my recipes. For the most part it is healthy, easy, economical and always delicious. As with most cuisines, Italian cooking varies considerably from one region to another. My recipe collection is primarily Southern Italian-style, but I have included other regional dishes, as well as some Italian-American presentations. Don't forget that there are many more recipes from each category that are not Italian that can be found in the Recipe Files.
