This is a collection of pie and tart recipes, both sweet and savory, including a few miniature finger food versions, many of which have been passed down through several generations of my Pennsylvania Dutch family, others that I received from friends, and a few of my own creation. I love a good homemade pie. It is probably my favorite type of dessert. My mother and grandmothers were excellent pie bakers. When I was a child, my family had pie with every Sunday dinner and for every special occasion. I guess the most daunting task in making any pie is the crust. However, with a good recipe and a little care you can't go wrong. For a recipe, see my Favorite Pie Crust linked below, which is the pie dough my mother made for years, and similar to the recipe my grandmother used. It seems that my best, flakiest crusts are the ones that are difficult to roll out and need the most patching when placed in the pie pan. Of course, when you are in a hurry, there are some reasonably good refrigerated or frozen pie crusts available in your grocery store.
