Grilled Ham Steaks with Orange-Mustard Glaze

Serves 4 to 6

This is a quick and easy ham recipe. The glaze is similar to one you would use when baking a whole or half ham, such as the glazed ham in the similar and related recipes. If you are unable to grill outdoors, or for those times when the weather does not cooperate, this can be made using a grill pan, skillet or broiler.

Ingredients

  • 1-1/2 to 2 pounds fully cooked ham steaks, about 3/4-inch thick
  • 1/4 cup orange juice
  • 2 teaspoons prepared yellow mustard
  • 1 tablespoon dark brown sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted

Place ham in shallow dish. Mix together the remaining ingredients until well blended. Pour mustard mixture over ham and let set until grill is hot.

Meanwhile, heat grill. Place ham steaks over high, direct heat and grill until nicely browned and hot, about 5 minutes per side. Heat remaining mustard mixture. (Since the ham comes fully cooked, the remaining glaze does not have to be boiled, just heated.) Return the ham to the heated glaze and turn to coat both sides. Serve immediately.

Notes: This ham is good at room temperature so it is be very nice on a brunch buffet. You can also purchase thinner ham steaks and use in sandwiches.
