I love to grill, whether for a gathering of friends and family or just for everyday cooking because it is easy, generally healthy, usually requires less clean-up and tastes so good. This is a collection of my favorite recipes for the grill, including meats, poultry, seafood and vegetables, as well as some shared recipes submitted by contributors. Although I do most of my outdoor cooking during the summer, there are other times of the year when I just cannot resist. For convenience, I use the gas grill most often, but I also have a kettle grill for those times when I want that extra smoky flavor. If you do not have access to an outdoor grill or if the weather does not cooperate with your plans, any of the recipes listed can be made indoors with a grill pan, a broiler or, in some cases, in the oven.
When deciding what to cook on the grill, use your imagination and do not limit yourself to the usual meats, poultry and seafood. If you have a grill with a lid, you can use it just like an oven. I have made many a casserole, vegetables, even some cakes outdoors. The grills today can do just about anything that can be done indoors. After a hurricane in 1996, we were without an oven and cooktop for nearly a month. Delivery and hot dogs got old very quickly. We cooked every hot meal on our gas grill from eggs, bacon, toast and coffee for breakfast, stir-fries, stews, even rice and pasta for dinner. So, have fun, experiment with your own ideas, and enjoy!
