This is a personal family collection of soup recipes, some of which have been passed down through several generations of my Pennsylvania Dutch family, a few that I learned from Italian friends, and the remainder of my own creation. When I want "comfort food", soup is my first choice. Soup is fun to make, delicious to eat, healthy and nutritious in most presentations, serves a crowd, makes great leftovers, and just plain comforting to the body and soul. Additionally, many soups can be served as an elegant and delicious first course for a special occasion or entertaining. Some soups are best served during the cooler months of the year, but lighter soups are equally good in the summer. I have categorized the soup and chowder recipes three ways; soups in which the primary ingredient is beans, soups with a creamy or puréed base, and all other soups, such as brothy vegetable soups. Additionally, there are several homemade stocks and broths that can be used as a soup base or in other applications. Finally, I have included a link to soup recipes shared by contributors. So cook up a big pot of comfort and enjoy!
