There is something about winter, more than any other season, that evokes memories of and cravings for our favorite comfort food. Many of those recipes transport us back to our childhood. Others just make us feel warm and cozy inside. I look forward to the opportunity to make my old standbys, or have fun and try new ones. The problem is that, the older I get, the more foods I find 'comforting'. I suppose that is because eating is my favorite activity. For that matter, I find cooking comforting. However, there are certain foods that I crave on occasion that make me feel like everything is right with the world. What that food is depends on the time of year and the mood I am in at the moment. It might be as simple as a handful of roasted nuts, as light and nutritious as a bowl of chicken noodle soup, as time-consuming as a pot roast, or as decadent as a piece of chocolate cake with a thick layer of creamy chocolate frosting. That being said, I have attempted to compile a collection of my favorite comfort food recipes, many of which are quick and easy, others a bit more labor intensive, some that are healthy and light, and those that are delightfully indulgent. I hope some will become your favorites. If you don't find what you are craving, use the search box or browse through the Recipes, Features and Resources Index for many more options.
