Multigrain Sandwich Bread

(Bread Machine Recipe)
Makes one 1-1/2 or 2 pound loaf

The bread flour used in this recipe is specifically designed for bread machines, processors and mixers. The texture is wonderful for toast and sandwiches. It is not recommended to make this by hand unless you plan to knead the dough very vigorously for a long period of time. I have listed ingredients for either a 1 pound or 1-1/2 pound loaf. I prefer the smaller loaf because it makes an average-sized sandwich. However, that depends on the shape of your bread machine.

Ingredients

   1 Pound Loaf
  • 1 tablespoon plus 1 teaspoon warm water
  • 2/3 cup warm milk
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 1 tablespoon plus 2 teaspoons sugar
  • 1-1/3 teaspoons salt
  • 1-2/3 cups bread flour
  • 1/2 cup 8-grain or other whole grain flour
  • 1-1/2 teaspoons active dry yeast

   1-1/2 Pound Loaf
  • 2 tablespoons warm water
  • 1 cup warm milk
  • 3 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 2-1/2 tablespoons sugar
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 2-1/2 cups bread flour
  • 3/4 cup 8-grain or other whole grain flour
  • 2-1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast

Add the ingredients in the order given or as indicated for your machine. Use the basic white setting for a light crust. Bake according to manufacturer's instructions.
