Mascarpone Cream for Fruit or Berries

Makes about 1-1/2 cups

Mascarpone is an Italian double or triple-cream cheese that is very soft and mild. It is especially good as a dessert cheese and is an important ingredient in Tiramisu, which is in the similar and related recipes. I love it made this way, used as a topping for fresh fruit or berries that can be served for breakfast or dessert. This version is somewhat healthier than those made with heavy cream. If desired, you can substitute honey or pure maple syrup for the sugar.

Ingredients

  • 8 ounces mascarpone cheese
  • 1/4 cup sour cream (can use reduced fat)
  • 1/2 cup milk (can use reduced or nonfat)
  • 2 teaspoons granulated sugar (can use sugar substitute)
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Combine all ingredients in a small bowl. Whisk vigorously until smooth. If a thinner consistency is desired, whisk in a little more milk. Spoon over fresh fruit or berries.
