Empanaditas (Spanish Pies)

Francine writes: "You may also use pumpkin filling, or even a meat filling, such as hamburger or sausage."

Ingredients

   Dough
  • 1 pound of frozen bread dough, thawed (can use refrigerated pie dough)
   Filling
  • 1 can of fruit filling, any kind
  • 1/16 teaspoon allspice
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/2 cup applesauce
  • 1/8 cup pine nuts or any nuts desired
  • 1/2 cup raisins
   For Finishing
  • Melted butter or 1 beaten egg for brushing dough

Preheat oven to 400° F. Combine all filling ingredients. Roll dough out to 1/8-inch thick and cut into rounds with biscuit cutter. Place one teaspoon of filling on each round of dough. Fold dough over filling and seal edges. Brush with melted butter or beaten egg for shine and bake for 15 minutes or until golden brown.
