Preheat oven to 350° F. In large bowl combine sugar, eggs and vanilla. Blend well with a whisk. Add melted shortening and cocoa, mixing well. In smaller bowl mix flour, nuts and salt. Add to cocoa mixture blending well with a spoon. Bake in a greased and floured 11x8-inch pan for 25 minutes. Do not overbake.
